Information about the artwork
This lithograph is from the cycle of 4 works dedicated to Moses. Here he shows tablets of law to the viewer. Moses is crowned with the traditional "horns" - the rays of light, gained on the Sinai. Life of Moses is one of the most common biblical themes in the art world. In early Christian art, Moses was often depicted as beardless young man with thes staff in his hand. Later a canonical image of him developed: a grand old man with a beard, with the tablets in his hands and with "horns" on the head (a misunderstanding, due to the fact that the word "Karnal" in Hebrew means "rays" and "horns).
