From the series "Chagall Lithographe I", dedicated to such central themes of art of Marc Chagall as love, family, Vitebsk, Paris, Bible, circus.
Printed in Mourlot Frères, Paris; published by Andre Sauret, Paris.
Cramer, 43.
Chagall mastered the technique of color lithoraphy back in the 40s, during his stay in the United States, completing 13 dazzling with beauty illustrations for "Tales of 1001 Nights." Color and black and white lithographs become the artist's favorite technique in the postwar years. Being almost complete analog of painting in the engravings, lithography in the best way possible complied to the idiosyncracy of late Chagall and provided the best opportunity for printing and distributing to people the "message" of the artist - especially the biblical one.
